Restoring an Important Community Entrance at Ostreme Community Hall, Mumbles

Graham A. Jones Building Contractor recently completed a doorway restoration project at Ostreme Community Hall in Mumbles, helping bring an important community entrance back into safe and practical use.

The doorway had not opened properly for nearly two years, which meant the entrance could not be used as intended. With the building due to serve as a polling station, the work needed to be completed carefully, correctly and on schedule.

The project involved taking down part of the existing stone wall to access the structure around the doorway. During the work, it became clear that the steel lintel above the entrance had completely rusted and needed to be replaced. A new lintel was installed to provide the proper support required, before the stonework was rebuilt around the opening.

As well as the structural repair, the existing door and frame were replaced. Rather than choosing an off-the-shelf option, the original door design was copied so that the finished result would remain sympathetic to the character of the building. An identical replica door was manufactured by Woodshop Joinery in Skewen, before being installed as part of the completed works.

The result is a restored entrance that looks in keeping with the original building, while also being safe, secure and fully usable again. The project was completed on time, allowing the doorway to be used for polling station access as planned.

Projects like this are a good example of how practical building work and careful restoration can go hand in hand. The aim was not simply to replace what was there, but to preserve the appearance of the doorway while solving the structural and usability issues behind it.

Graham A. Jones Building Contractor is pleased to have completed this work for Ostreme Community Hall and to have helped restore an entrance that will continue to serve the local community.
